Justification for idea

After analyzing all my ideas, I finally made a decision and produce a documentary on “The Future of Scottish Football”. I believe this will be topic will be great for my groups hour long show and fits nicely into our theme “the Future of Scotland” and its Radio Station “BBC radio Scotland”.

The reason I chose The Future of Scottish Football over my Edinburgh Fringe idea is because with the Fringe starting in August I feel like I would be limited to the people to interview. Also, I don’t really have direct angle to this story meaning I could end up with multiple stories

The reason I chose The Future of Scottish Football over my 20pmh Speed limit idea is because with this law just haven been recent I feel it would be too much of a risk as there is not enough research on this story yet. Also with me already disagreeing with the new law, I feel listeners would notice more of a one-sided debate.

Although Scottish football as been talked about for years. I feel with the new system being added to Scottish team, this will make for a great package and will fit well together with my group hour long show.

Third idea

After Matthew help narrow me to have my package be based on a sport. I had an idea of having a 6-8 minute documentary on “the future of Scottish Football”. after looking at some news articles Scottish football are now changing their performance to help improve their team. I also found out that it’s been nearly 2 decades since Scotland last qualified for a World Cup and a Fifa tournament. I think that producing a documentary on Scottish football will be relevant to our group’s theme and our radio station. the angle I would get from this story is to find out what’s wrong with today’s Scottish football and how we can improve as a team. The people I would like to get for this would be a Sports director- having this type of person who gives me the insight of our Scottish team, a sports journalist- someone who has a great knowledge of  Football games and share their opinions to why Scotland is suffering as a team, also a football coach who is training the young footballers and preparing them to become a Scottish Football team. I believe that with the right research and the correct people to interview this could be a great documentary to produce. I now need to look at all my ideas and see which one fits into my team’s theme the most, However, I feel like this may be my best option.

Second idea

Before we were placed into our groups I had I broad idea of doing my Graded unit on the new “20mph rule”. at the time we were getting prepared to be put in our groups, the Scottish government was about to install the new 20mph speed limit, meaning high populated road areas had to now reduce their speed to 20mph. it’s now been over a week since the new speed limit has been placed and there has been a debate on whether or not it is a good idea to have. some people say that it will help reduce accidents on the road and keep pedestrians/cyclists feeling more on the road. However, there has been many complaints from the driving community that it is making no difference and is taking people longer on the road. Also, there has been many complaints that service transport (Taxies) are now costing more because of the longer drive.

I think if I find more research into this then I believe that this could work, as this idea will fit into my Groups theme and our radio station. The angle I would get is having my package two-sided, I would talk about how the 20mph rule is helping keeping the roads safe by interviewing some councilors who agree on the 20mph limit and cyclist who see the benefits to the road. Also, I would get interviews from people who argue about the new rule such as Taxi drivers and other community models of transport. However, I do worry that this being just a recent act then there won’t be much research on it. Also, me being amoung the driving community and disagree with the 20mph rule I feel that this package would be very onesided.

However, I do worry that this being just a recent act then there won’t be much research on it. Also, me being among the driving community and disagree with the 20mph rule I feel that this package would be very one-sided.

First idea

Since the time I was placed into my groups I chose to have my package on Culture/ tradition in Scotland. I am still undecided on a solid idea so I began to research some culture news happening in Scotland.

Looking at news articles, I thought about having my package based around the Edinburgh Fringe festival. I think this would be a good idea as 2017 will mark the 70th year the festival has been in Edinburgh and having something big like the Fringe would fit perfectly to our group’s Radio station. I don’t know what kind of angle I would try and get for my package at this moment but I’m thinking I may do a story on “How Scotland is affected by the increase of tourists while the Fringe is taking place”. I think this could be a good story as I can interview local cafe’s/ Hotel’s near the Royal Mile and ask them how much they gain during the Festival period. Also, I was thinking of doing a story on “the types of different acts that come to Edinburgh to perform for the public”. I also think this could be a great story as I could interview performers and ask them “how much work beforehand goes into setting up their performance(s), Do you make any profit from your performance/ Does the hard you put into your performance pay off and is performing in Scotland opening more opportunities for you?”. I think this could be a great story as my Groups theme is about “the Future of Scotland” and could fit well into our magazine show.

However, I still need to do more research into the Fringe to see if there is a story there but for now, I believe this fits into my group’s theme and radio station.

Analysis Of Brief

I am aware of the requirements needed for the Graded unit. I know the package must be an hour long with everyone’s Documentary being at least 6 to 8 minutes long.

The type of radio station I will base my Documentary on will depend on the theme that my group will agree with. I understand that there are different radio stations that will broadcast a unique style to their documentary’s. For example, if my group decided on Radio 1 then the hour-long show will have to include upbeat/up to date music and appeal to Radio 1 target audience who are mostly aged 16-29-year-old. However, if we were broadcasting for Radio 4 then we will have more dialog as Radio 4 target audience are older listeners, aged 35 and over who want to be educated while listening to a documentary.

The Equipment used throughout the planning of the documentary will be a computer with the software to record and edit audio clips. A recording studio that will have suitable equipment i.e. Microphones, Soundproof decor.

In my group, we will have to decide what is are Target Audience. once we have picked a Radio station we have to use that radio style and appeal to their Target Audience. We need to look at age, gender, and interests.

With my Package Content, I need to make sure that I include all the main factors, by having the correct amount of guests to interview (minimum of 3), research on the guests making sure they fit correctly to my package. also, research on my chosen topic making sure it matches my group’s theme and matches my given topic. present a pitch to my commissioner who will mark me down on how well my package fits into my group’s theme and the hour long show.

when put into my group, we need work together to produce our Magazine Program. We need to make sure that all our individual packages fit into our theme and our chosen radio station
